About

About Christina

Since 2007 I have had the privilege to work with individuals, communities, and public funded programs in adapting to the constantly changing world of work. As a private practice Career Counselor, my approach with clients incorporates humanistic, culturally inclusive, post-modern theories and techniques. I get the privilege to join individuals as they discover and develop their future-focused journeys.

In addition to my work with clients, I have significant experience educating future counselors as an adjunct graduate instructor at many universities, including: University of San Francisco, Brandman University, Sacramento State, and Oregon State University. I also work as a school counselor in the K-12 environment.

I am a Sacramento State graduate with a Master's of Science degree in Counseling, and since that time I have added on School Counseling with a clinical focus. I also completed a PhD in Counseling at Oregon State University where I conducted research on an online course I developed for professional school counselors to increase their confidence and competence in broaching career conversations in the K-12 environment.

I am a National Certified Counselor (NCC) through the National Board of Certified Counselors, and a Board Certified Tele-Mental Health (BC-TMH) counselor through the Center for Credentialing and Education.

How Online Counseling Works

How Online Counseling Works

Also known as tele-counseling

Online counseling involves using any of the following types of communication:

  • Video: with the use of a webcam, speakers, and microphone.

  • Phone and texting.

  • Email

I have chosen to provide services via online counseling as research has shown that it is just as effective as in-office counseling. Online counseling provides greater flexibility and access for individuals with scheduling and transportation challenges. There is a benefit to the client as online counseling reduces the costs to practice, which is reflected in the hourly fee schedule. This also allows me to serve clients outside of the Sacramento area.

Using technology in counseling has some drawbacks; connections can get dropped, and secure connections may be compromised. As your counselor I will do everything in my power to ensure that confidentiality is not breached, however I cannot guarantee it. As the client, it is your responsibility to identify a secure and confidential space where you can speak freely during our sessions.

At the beginning of the first session I will ask you to verify your identity; this is typically achieved by showing your ID on the video camera. At the beginning of each session I will ask for a physical address you are located at and emergency contact information. This is done to ensure that I can get you help should you need it.
